Exhibitions Opening Soon!

The annual art exhibition run by our fundraising volunteers at Celebrate Cuckmere Haven will be opening next week, on Saturday 2nd September at 11am. The show will run 11am - 5pm Wednesdays to Sundays until 17th September, and includes work from over 70 artists.

The theme this year is Wide Blue Spaces, how being by the water is good for our mental and physical wellbeing. With a wide range of art on sale, along with a fabulous shop, evening events and raffle, all raising much needed funds for Cuckmere Haven SOS.

The exhibition is part of the Artwave Festival, with Wide Blue Spaces at venue 89, and IndiVISIBLE, a show celebrating how our differences make for a stronger community, at venue 90.

Also in September is Heritage Open Days, where the Cable Hut and 6 Coastguard Cottages will be open for a few days to the public. Please click the link above and search for ‘Cuckmere’.

With so much going on in September, we hope to see you there!

Innovative Fundraising

Helen Gibbons and her civil partner Brian Roberts, raised funds for CHSOS earlier this year, through requesting their civil ceremony guests to give money to charitable causes, rather than buying them any presents.  CHSOS was one of three charities supported, representing their love for this part of the Sussex coastline and its iconic cultural and environmental significance.  While visiting the cottages with a couple of their friends/guests, they enjoyed a sumptuous tea with Daniel Martin at the Cuckmere Haven Coastguard Cottages.

We thank Helen and Brian, and all their guests who contributed for their generosity.

CHSOS appoints Whaleback Ltd

Cuckmere Haven SOS is pleased to announce it has appointed Whaleback Ltd, the Hove based chartered town planning consultancy, to develop plans for the repair and strengthening of the sea defences at Cuckmere Haven. The work is essential to preserve the area’s cultural heritage whilst addressing the important environmental nature of this section of the coastline.

Whaleback will work with the Trust in a project management role to provide professional planning support, including the engagement and management of an engineering and structural design firm, through to the submission of a planning application to SDNPA.
