We are delighted that we have been granted pre-planning permission by our planning authority, The Southdowns National Park for the essential work to provide secure sea defences for Cuckmere Haven cliff end of the West Beach to ensure the future of the coastguard cottages, the cable hut and the beach access from the nature reserve.
Now we face the big task which is to get full planning. We will have to satisfy the requirements of eight different authorities from the Marine Management Organisation (which requires a licence for many activities involving a deposit or removal of a substance or object below the mean high water springs mark) to Natural England and Seaford Council. It is so complex that The Southdowns National Park has suggested we will need the assistance of a planning consultant. We have had some helpful leads on finding this person. Most agencies have been helpful and supportive. They all recognise the importance of this landscape.
While so far no one has been paid for any of their work for Cuckmere Haven SOS , we will now require funds to pay for planning consultants, impact studies, technical testing, materials and no doubt much more. We are so grateful to all those who have helped in many different ways. Please keep it up. Do not hesitate to contact us if you feel you can help in any way.
Once planning permission is granted we will be applying for grants and major funds in order to reach our goal of over £200,000. We are looking for someone experienced in the art of sourcing grants from the public sector, charitable trusts and foundations. Know anyone? Get in touch :)
